Sat, Apr 6Driver and Instructor In-service Program (Bullying)07:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Merrimack Valley High School, Penacook, NH (Saturday, April 6, 2019)
Our program will begin with an update from Trooper Stephanie Bosch from the Office of Pupil Transportation Safety at DMV and a presentation by the NH Dept. of Environmental Services on its latest Anti-Idling initiative. After their presentations, we will begin our formal presentations with the following topics:
“Choose Love”, led by Shannon Desilets, JLCL Ambassador, will introduce us to the impact that social emotional learning (SEL) has on the behavior of those who might otherwise wish to harm or act out (as a bully) toward peers or those in charge. By promoting healthy relationships, more meaningful connections and with the use of skills and tools that teach resilience, how to identify, manage and express emotions, the aim is to prevent toxic behaviors or actions. “I’ve Got Your Back” (IGYB) is a campaign designed to bring awareness to the issue of bullying. The program, when used in schools begins at first grade and continues throughout a student’s school career. Ann Guillemette, Outreach Coordinator for IGYB will talk about the aim of the campaign and offer points taken from the program what should be of value to those who interface with students on a daily basis, including on the school bus. This program focuses on how opening up communications about bullying, including how to work with students struggling as the target of bullies.
